With Tony's birthday on Sunday and bad weather Monday, I didn't make it to the cemetery until today. It was actually really nice. No one was there and the grounds looked beautiful covered with flowers. It is so nice that Tony's parents and his brother's grave are at the same cemetery as my mom. Hannah, Sarah, and I went to Tony's Family's graves first. It was Pete's birthday a few days ago (He would have been 80) and I think Beckie left him a big bag of his favorite chips along with a Diet Coke and Apple Pie.

Sarah was so excited and sat down and opened the bag (Sorry Beckie). I almost stopped her, but then I thought about how much Pete loved sharing his chips with the kids when they came over. The girls sat there and ate and talked. Hannah was very concerned about when everyone died and how old was she. She can't remember Ranae, and only vaguely remembers Pete. Sarah must have thought it was so strange when I told her to say thanks to grandpa for sharing his chips, the grandpa she knows was nowhere in sight.
Then we walked over to my mom's grave and the girls played by the water fountain over there.
I thought of how much the grandparents loved watching the kids play, and could picture them watching from heaven. Hannah then had to go to the bathroom and so we had to go into the mortuary. It was amazing how quick all the memories came back, and as I walked by the room where I dressed my mom I felt like I had been slugged in the stomach. It made me thankful for time and knowing that these difficult memories will fade, but the good memories will always be there.
