MY FIRST MAMMOGRAM

On Tuesday I had my first mammogram. I remember my mom telling me it was like someone taking two spatulas and smashing your breasts as flat as a pancake. I was a little worried about how they would do mine seeing that I don't have a lot to work with, but I was completely amazed (and in pain) when I looked down and saw how big and flat they got it. After they smoosh it from one side, they turn the machine and smoosh it from the other side. What I wasn't prepared for was the flood of emotion that came with it. I don't know if it was just that I couldn't call my mom after and talk to her about it, or if writing down my extensive family history of cancer freaked me out, but I ended up back in the dressing room bawling. The nurse told me not to freak out if they called me back to look at something again because it was fairly normal with your first mammogram becaue there is nothing to compare it too. I nodded and said, "oh yeah I won't worry!" YEAH RIGHT!!! I freak out everytime the phone rings. I am positive it is them calling me to come back in because they found some massive tumor (that somehow I can't feel). I kept wondering if my mom hadn't had to wait a month after feeling the lump to get a mammogram would it have made a differnce. I know it is stupid to worry about when there is no going back.By going in today I felt like I was doing something for my kids. Showing them that I care enough about them and want to be there for them by being vigilant about my health, especially with something that is so easy to do.

Great now I am craving pancakes, with chocolate chips no less.;) Well I didn't realize they flattend your chest like that when you went in for mammogram, sounds delightful. But it is so good of you to go. I can imagine how emotional that would be for you, so good job! I am sure you are just fine.:)

That's really good that you went and had it done. I have heard how painful they are. I'm not looking forward to my first one. I talked to my doctor about having one and she told me the earliest I can have one done is when i turn 40 (because of the bad family history, ususally they don't do them until you turn 50) or unless i find a lump first. Nice, eh?

I loved your demonstration today of the mammogram. If you think they had trouble squishing your boobs they're going to have to get tweezers to find mine. Do the plates come in mini sizes? I admire you for doing that - you are so brave!

All I have to say is that sucks. Hopefully your boobs re-inflated. (Is that even a word?)
